The peas are about 2 1/2 feet tall, growing neatly up the netting. I’ve had to train a few of them but most of them just naturally grabbed on and started climbing. They blossomed a few days ago and we’re starting to see peas now…just in time since we have apparently skipped the rest of spring and are in full-blown summer (it has been 90 degrees for the past few days, no rain and the rain barrels are empty…).
peasAnyway, we really recommend Eliot Coleman’s trellis idea from Four Season Harvest. It is so easy to build, just a wood frame and then staple plastic netting to the frame. And it can be adapted to specific needs…ours is not meant to be permanent but you can use metal and I’ve even heard of people using cement to hold it in place.

We just built a trellis for our peas. I hope it doesn’t stay hot because I planted them late and they are only a few inches tall. I’ll be posting about the trellis sometime this week. Yours looks really easy and seems great for peas. How tall did you make it?
