Blueberry Blossoms

April 15, 2009

The Northland Blueberries, ordered from Gurney’s and planted bareroot on March 19 have been in our basement since we got them (along with the rasperries, a couple other blueberry bushes, an almond tree and an apple tree) since we haven’t had the opportunity to plant them outside. The blueberries now have white blossoms on them. During the first (and second) year of planting these blossoms need to be removed to encourage vigorous growth. Painful to do this because I so want to eat blueberries this year but we will have to be patient for a couple more. In any case, this blueberry bush seems very healthy, growing in non-ideal conditions in a pot in the basement, not even getting a lot of artificial light, much less any sunlight.
