Compost? Let’s Fight!

Josh and I have a disagreement. This is not unusual BUT it affects our compost so this disagreement actually matters.

A couple days ago I spent hours pulling out this ivy-like ground cover that is touch, invasive and it is flowering right now. Josh dumped a bunch in the compost bin. Our compost pile is not hot enough yet to break it down quicky; the vines might root and start sucking up the nutrients in the compost. But I could be wrong about this (?).

I know that composting weeds that have gone to seed is a bad idea but what about invasive vines that don’t have seed (yet)?

Our compost ratio needs help anyway. Over the winter it was just a depository for vegetable matter from the kitchen. It’s getting to the point that we need to add more brown (leaves) and green.

After we decide about the vines I am going to add a layer of dry leaves leftover from fall.
