First Plants in the Ground
Today we put in the first bed. The garden soil is not as good as we’d hoped — very heavy clay under a thin layer of good stuff
– but the people who lived here before us were (thankfully) composters and there are some rich piles of dirt around the yard to compensate. We spent most of our time prepping the bed by breaking up clumps of clay & mixing with good soil…& then we planted our first crops of the season. Yay! I can’t wait to have fresh greens again…it has been a LONG winter. We will have to extend our growing season next year so that we have vegetables through February. Last year we were too busy moving in to do anything with the garden, much less build cold frames, etc. Below is a graph of what we planted and in which row.
Tomorrow Josh is putting in brightlights chard and some beets.
