tomato If you are looking for a reason to buy local here is yet another: by doing so you are indirectly fighting against slavery and worker exploitation. I am quite sure that these conditions extend to all the convenient foods we depend on, not just tomatoes. Illegal or recent immigrants make up the vast majority of people employed both to pick fruits/vegetables and also to work in our slaughterhouses.
