Barn Razing

March 1, 2009

shed
We successfully moved the shed/chicken coop. Or at least we moved the components of the shed. The entire process took 18 hours or so. Yesterday, the “easy” part, the part that I actually thought would be the most difficult — tearing the shed down without destroying beyond use — was accomplished in under two hours by Josh, my father and two of our brother-in-laws. Using a reciprocating saw, hammers, a stud bar, crow bar & a circulating saw the shed became four walls, the floor (halved) and the trusses.

The only part we didn’t salvage was the shingles. The entire shed (10x10x10) fit into a 17-ft U-haul truck. Making that happen was when the experience got…interesting & the learning experience really began…for example, we learned not to drive a heavy truck onto wet ground and expect to drive it back out. Really, the 16 hours following the tear down deserve their own post.
