Since I have a moment I thought I would mention our compost bin. It is big & pretty close to our neighbor’s backporch so we will have to keep it from getting stinky. Don’t think this will be a problem. Since Josh & I are trying to re-use everything we can we (“we” being mainly Josh & my father) built our compost bin out of the bamboo that was growing out of control over the driveway & the frame came from a falling-down swingset that came with the house. The front panel lifts off so that getting into the compost to rake it or shovel it out will be easy. There is space between the bamboo rods that I think will help air circulate. We should have plenty of green and brown material to fill this with over the summer; this winter we have mainly used it for vegetable scraps. As for the chicken manure/straw I’m thinking we will compost that in a pile at the bottom of the hill…seems like that would add a bit too much stink to the process.
